The Most Common Reasons Why Prayers Are Not Answered
Uploaded by WVNOP, Mar 19 2009,  3:34:39 PM | Viewed 2795 time(s).
One of the greatest benefits in the life of a Christian is the privilege of seeing prayers answered. Jesus made this promise in Matthew 21:22: "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive". Despite God's willingness to answer prayer, it is obvious that some prayers have gone unanswered. Here are some reasons why.

1. Lack of Fellowship with God and His Word - John 15:7 We have the promise that if we remain in His fellowship and His Word abides in our hearts, we will see prayers answered.

2. Not Seeking to Please God - 1 John 3:22
Answers to prayer come when we seek to keep His commandments and please the Lord with our life. Lack of love, bitterness, and unforgiveness is the root of many unanswered prayers.

3. Unconfessed Sin in One's life - 1 Peter 3:12 Sin will disrupt the flow of God's blessings and answers to prayer, whether that be sins of "commission" or sins of "omission".

4. Improper Motives - James 4:3
Self-centeredness and carnality will hinder our prayers from being answered.

5. Not Asking in God's Will - 1 John 5:14-15
God answers prayers that are in "His" will. God's will is revealed through His Word. He'll honor our prayers based on His Word.

6. Don't Know How to Pray - Luke 11:1
Jesus gave His disciples an outline for prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, (the Lord's Prayer). Other passages teach prayer as private times interminged with praise and thanksgiving. Times of fasting are also mentioned to strengthen our faith.

7. Lack of Faith - Hebrews 11:6 Without faith we cannot please God. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Our faith can also be "built up" by praying in the Holy Ghost.

8. Wavering Faith - James 1:6-7
Our faith must become stable, steadfast and consistent to receive from God.

9. Failure to Apply Spiritual Authority - Mark 11:23
The authority of the name of Jesus can overcome any obstacle that confronts us.

10. Lack of Perseverance - Galatians 6:9 God's Word teaches us to keep believing and pressing on, no matter how long it takes! God works in His time and in due season He will bring the answer to pass.

Prayer - What is It? by Thetus Tenney

Prayer is breath to the spirit.
It is the lifeline to the soul.
It is the tether to the eternal.
Prayer is communication between creature and creator.
It is the eye into the invisible.
It is the ear to the unspoken.
Prayer is the access into the heavenlies.
It is the activator of the miraculous.
Prayer is enlightenment to the mind.
It is understanding to the emotions.
Prayer is man's greatest opportunity.
It is man's daily challenge.
It is man's amazing possibility.

Prayer is the mystery of all mysteries.
It is as complex as creation.
It is as simple as a child's talk.
It is the most powerful power available to man.
It is more piercing than a laser.
It is the seed of all things possible.
It is the finality of man's ability.
Prayer is man plugged into God.
It is God working through man.

Prayer is creative, destructive, cohesive, dividing, awe-inspiring, frightening, possible and probable.

Prayer is bigger than can be imagined.
It is faster than a beam of light.
It is endless inpossibilities.
It can be more concentrated than an atom.

Prayer is forceful, tender, shattering, healing, complex and simple.

Prayer has never been totally understood, completely explained or utterly exhausted.
It is beyond the wisest man's comprehension.
It can be effectively used by a child.
All the words ever known cannot adequately describe it.
Yet it can be reduced to a single word.

Every language can speak it.
Only God can understand it.
Practice it and find peace.
Believe in it and find faith.
Let it consume you and really live.

Prayer - the unimaginable, imcomprehensible, obtainable connection between the finite and the infinite, the earth bound and the Almighty who fills the universe.

Prayer - God's gift to man.
Use it. Engage it. Revel in it. Enjoy it. Reap from its riches.
Sing it. Read it. Think it. Speak it.
"Men ought always to pray..."

The Bible is a book of prayers. There are over 600 recorded prayers. There are long prayers and short prayers. There are desperate prayers and prayers of devotion and thanksgiving. There are requests and rebukes and repentance. There are prayers of destruction, life-giving prayers, and multiple intercessions. There are prayers from a lonely woman, a fearful child, a frightened fisherman, a patriarch, an apostle, a prophet and a disciple.

Leaders prayed. Nations prayed. Friends prayed. Groups prayed. Individuals prayed. Sinners prayed. Saints prayed.

Jesus prayed.

Characteristics Of A Christian - By Brenda Hudson

Use this focused prayer guide as a means to better connect with God and to establish a more productive prayer time. Remember, it is God you are speaking to. Stay focused and do not use vain repetition. Specific, focused prayer from the heart is what gets God's attention.

Week 1 - How We Treat Others
In the Name of Jesus Christ we pray:
Remind us that the way we treat others portrays our Christian values.
Help us to show tender-heartedness to one another.
You are a merciful God; may we show that same mercy to others.
Allow us to demonstrate to the world that integrity is important in our Christian walk.
Do not allow us to engage in gossip, which tears down people.

Week 2 - The Condition of Our Heart
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray:
Allow Your Word to reveal Your nature to us.
May we not be deceived by Satan's alternative attractions.
Remove the hardness of our hearts and cultivate a right spirit within us.
Reveal the true condition of our hearts and give us the desire to allow You to change us.
Give us a heart of thanksgiving.
Let the Words of Christ live in our hearts.
Let our worship be genuine and true; give us a heart of worship.

Week 3 - Our Relationship with God
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray:
Remove intimidation that weakens our testimony for Christ.
You long to be with us - put a desire in our hearts to spend time with You.
Our hearts are fully committed to You; strengthen us in our time of need.
Our loyalty is to You; remove those things from our lives that draw us away from You.
You gave Your life that all may be saved; may all come to know Your saving grace.
Teach us to love the way You loved - willing to give freeely to the point of self-sacrifice.
May we truly seek after those things in life that really matter.

Week 4 - Transformation
In the name of Jesus Christ we pray:
Open our spiritual eyes to undertand the riches of You glory.
Transform us into new people by changing the way we think.
Humble our spirits and give us a repenting heart.
Remove the pride that keeps us from seeing ourselves as You see us.
May our hearts be filled with a spirit of jubilation, singing songs of praise to You.
Our minds are fixed on thee; keep us in perfect peace.
Let our actions reflect God's values and not the world's values.
