Sunday School Contest 2009
West Virginia District United Pentecostal Church
The West Virginia District Sunday School Department will again this year be promoting a statewide Sunday School Contest among our UPCI churches. The district sponsored promotion will last four Sundays,
March 22, March 29, April 5, and Easter Sunday April 12.
Our goal is “VISITORS” in "YOUR" Sunday School.
The plan for building interest and enthusiasm among the churches is to:
• Count “TOTAL ATTENDANCE” in each Sunday School.
• Count “TOTAL NUMBER OF VISITORS” in Sunday School.
• Then figure the percentage of “VISITORS TO ATTENDANCE.”
Examples:
• Total attendance on Sunday: “30”, Total Visitors: “3”, = 10%
• Total attendance on Sunday: “300”, Total Visitors: “30” = 10%
In an effort to encourage the return of the “VISITORS”, each of the four weeks we will add the percentage of week 1, to the percentage of week 2, to the percentage of week 3, to the percentage of week 4, for a sum total of points for each church.
How do we determine who is a visitor?
For this contest a visitor is someone who has not attended your Sunday School any time this year until your Easter Sunday School Contest begins.
Each week church results may be:
• Phoned in between noon and 6:00 PM on Sunday. Call: (304) 847-2167
• Emailed to: SSDir@wvupci.org
The contest goal each week will be the church with the highest percentage of visitors to total attendance. The sum total of the percentage for all Sundays will determine church ranking.
When you report please do so in the following format:
1.) Your church name.
2.) Your city name.
3.) Name of your church pastor.
4.) Total in-house attendance for your Sunday School service (all members plus all visitors).
5.) Total Visitors that were a part of your in-house attendance (those who have not attended your Sunday School between January 1, 2009 and the date your Easter Sunday School contest began. A visitor will count as a visitor each Sunday that they attend throughout the contest.)
6.) The name of the 8 to 11 year old who has brought the most visitors to your Sunday School during this contest and their total number of visitors.
Each week we plan to publish the contest results on the WV District web page – http://www.wvupci.org/
WHEN YOU ARE PROMOTING SUNDAY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE WOULD YOU PLEASE ALSO PROMOTE THE SAVE OUR CHILDREN OFFERING THAT FUNDS STATE AND NATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAMS.
An 8, 9, 10, or 11 year old from your church could get their tuition paid to Sunday School Camp.
The West Virginia District Sunday School Department plans to award two scholarships (tuition) to Sunday School Camp 2009.
The scholarship winners:
• Must be Sunday School Camp Age and attend Sunday School Camp 2009.
• Must meet all requirements for camp (Fill out application, follow all rules, be approved by UPCI pastor, etc.)
• Must attend a WV. UPCI church that participates in the Sunday School Contest.
• Must attend a WV. UPCI church that gives in the Save Our Children Offering 2009.
• The eight to eleven year old must bring visitors to Sunday School during the contest.
The two who bring the most visitors statewide will be the winners – In the case of a tie a written essay will be used as a tie breaker.
TIE BREAKER
In the event of a tie the eight to eleven year old will be required to write an essay of fifty words or less on the subject “Why I want to go to Sunday School Camp” with their name, address, and church listed only on the back.
Their WV UPCI church pastor must on the front write Visitors - then give total number of visitors the eight to eleven year old brought to Sunday School during the contest. The WVUPCI pastor must then sign and print their name only on the back of the page.
Essays must be submitted to: WV SS Director postmarked by May 2, 2009.
